Having an optimal nutritional environment in place not only increases your chance of healthy conception but is crucial for healthy foetal development.

It is common advice that we hear of the foods to avoid when pregnant or to conceive but we rarely hear information on what optimal pregnancy nutrition should look like.  You are literally building an entire human being during pregnancy and therefore need quality sources to support all the things a human body needs:

Protein – high quality organic, grass-fed meats, free-range organic eggs

Fats – often the biggest hurdle for many women but the body needs adequate quality fats for their hormones but also for the baby’s organ and brain development. Aim for quality fats which include grass-fed butter, ghee, olive oil, coconut oil, avocados, fill fat dairy, if tolerated.

Fruit and vegetables – provide the body with numerous vitamins and minerals. Include a variety of green leafy vegetables as well as a range of colours, daily.

Water – When you are pregnant your blood volume increases and your body has to supply fluid to replenish the amniotic fluid the baby is in. Staying hydrated is importan

t for this reason and to prevent constipation and fluid retention. Ideally drink filtered water to reduce the heavy metals found in tap water.
